Facebook Messenger tersedia gratis untuk iPhone, Android dan Blackberry (menyusul) yang memiliki fungsi ala BBM dengan fitur push notification.

Facebook baru saja merilis applikasi Facebook Messenger yang merupakan applikasi messaging stand alone / terpisah dari applikasi utama FB; yang memungkinkan user melakukan percakapan dengan satu atau banyak orang (group), mengirim foto, share lokasi melalui applikasi, SMS, FB Chat dan Inbox FB.
Facebook Messenger akan menggunakan fitur push notification untuk pengiriman antar pengguna applikasi, dan bagi penerima yang tidak memakai applikasi messenger — pesan akan dikirimkan melalui sms, Facebook Chat ataupun pesan inbox di FB.
Group message
Setelah user mendownload Facebook Messenger dari Apps Store ataupun Android Market, maka semua pesan inbox di FB akan diimport ke applikasi. Setelah itu user dapat memulai percakapan dengan menambahkan satu atau lebih teman dari Facebook ataupun nomor handphone dari kontak telepon.
Selain itu fitur unik yang hadir adalah pilihan untuk melihat semua kontak yang terdaftar sebagai teman di applikasi dengan tampilan peta.
Facebook messenger map
Fitur map di FB messenger mengijinkan user menemukan semua teman sehingga memungkinkan mereka dapat bertemu; lokasi yang dibagikan di Facebook messenger bersifat private dan tidak dipublikasikan di Facebook Places.
“Facebook Messenger” diyakini dapat mengakhiri hegemoni BBM di Blackberry serta applikasi lain serupa semacam WhatApps, GroupMe, Kik messenger, dll.
